Nucleation and growth of polytypic-layered crystals from the network liquid zinc chloride

Abstract:
A study was conducted on the crystallization from a model for developed for the study of liquid ZnCl2. As such, four distinct nucleation events were observed in ∼4% supercooled ZnCl2. Each event was characterized by a transition from the network liquid structure to a layered structure. As a result, each transition have both a coordination environment change and a reduction in dimensionality.
