BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Elevated free fatty acid (FFA) levels are believed to be one of the major contributing factors in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes. FFAs enhance peripheral insulin resistance, promote beta-cell dysfunction, and trigger beta-cell death.
