Hypertension is associated with the early onset of cardiac sympathetic hyperresponsiveness and enhanced intracellular Ca(2+) concentration [Ca(2+)](i) in sympathetic neurons from both prehypertensive and hypertensive, spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs).
