Glycosaminoglycans (GAG) are important vertebrate extracellular matrix polysaccharides that comprise repeated units of an acidic and an N-acetylated sugar. The constituent acidic sugars are central to their biological functions, but have been largely inaccessible to NMR because the (1)H resonances overlap with those from other residues.
