Identification of a population of placental alkaline phosphatase negative syncytiotrophoblast exosomes using a multiplex exosome kit

Abstract:
The placenta plays an important role in pathogenesis of pregnancy related disease such as gestational diabetes and preeclampsia. Syncytiotrophoblast derived exosomes (STBEX) are released into the maternal circulation and have been suggested as novel biomarkers to predict disease. Placental alkaline phosphatase (PLAP) has been used as a specific marker to select STBEX. We wondered if there are STBEX that do not express PLAP.
