Abstract:

Alpha-hemoglobin stabilizing protein (AHSP) is a potential modifier of beta-thalassemia by virtue of its ability to detoxify excess free alpha-globin. However, examination of patients with beta-thalassemia from a few geographic regions failed to identify obvious AHSP mutations.
