Risk and capability in the context of adversity: children’s contributions to household livelihoods in Ethiopia

Abstract:: Based on two rounds of qualitative and survey data (descriptive statistics) from caregivers and children in the Young Lives sample and a review of various social science literatures, this largely empirical piece contributes a new, culturally grounded, perspective on children’s responses to adversity which challenges notions of vulnerability and highlights young people’s active contribution to risk management and their agency.
