Erosive wear of alumina/SiC nanocomposite ceramics

Abstract:

The wet erosive wear behaviour of alumina/silicon carbide nanocomposites has been examined using a purpose built Rotating Jet Slurry Wear Tester (RJSWT). The wear rates of nanocomposites fabricated by pressureless sintering and hot pressing and incorporating varying volume fractions of silicon carbide nanoparticles (up to 20% by volume) has been measured.
