On the margins but not of the state: young Jerusalemites' navigating citizenship and welfare in a settler-colonial context

Abstract:

This thesis explores notions of ‘citizenship’ among young Palestinian Jerusalemites displaced by the Separation wall, in occupied East Jerusalem. Jerusalemite Palestinians’ only ‘legal’ bond to the state and access to their city is through the ‘permanent residency status’, which may be revoked at the discretion of the Israeli Interior Minister, rendering it particularly precarious.
