A SCHIFF-BASE DERIVED REDOX-RESPONSIVE RECEPTOR MOLECULE AND RELATED-COMPOUNDS WITH POTENTIAL AS NONLINEAR OPTICAL-MATERIALS

Abstract:
A new Schiff base redox-responsive receptor molecule (8) containing a ferrocene redox-active centre and a benzo-15-crown-5 metal cation binding unit is reported. The reversible redox couple of 8 shifts anodically on addition of Na+, K+ and Mg2+ guest cations. The synthesis and electrochemical properties of two related ferrocenyl Schiff base compounds (9 and 10) possessing electron-donor and -acceptor moieties which have potential as non-linear optical materials are also reported. © 1990.
