The impact of computational tools on time-series econometrics.

Abstract:

The paper discusses the evolution of a software system, and its influence on econometric practice. The main trends are from essentially 'techniques' to primarily graphical tools; a formalization of the underlying econometric modelling methodology; and a greatly increased emphasis on the user interface.
