In Eastern Thailand the increasing resistance of Plasmodium falciparum to all available antimalarial drugs prompted a reassessment of chloroquine in combination with either erythromycin or tetracycline. Both combinations had produced encouraging results in vitro, in experimental animal models, or in preliminary clinical trials.
