ATP-sensitive K+ channels in rat pancreatic beta-cells: modulation by ATP and Mg2+ ions.

Abstract:

1. The inside-out configuration of the patch-clamp method was used to study the effects of MgATP, free ATP and Mg2+ on single ATP-sensitive K+ channel currents in rat pancreatic beta-cells. 2. Magnesium ions caused a marked reduction of channel activity: 5 mM-free Mg2+ produced a 50% reduction in the activity of inward currents recorded at -60 mV in symmetrical K+ concentrations. 3.
