The SALL (Spalt-like) family of zinc-finger transcription factors is conserved in metazoans. In Drosophila Sal (Spalt) and Salr (Spalt-related) control the expression of genes involved in wing and central nervous system development, including cell adhesion and cytoskeletal proteins.
