Abstract:

The human leukocyte antigen (HLA) system comprises closely linked genes controlling highly polymorphic proteins involved in the presentation of peptides to the T-cell receptor. Specific alleles at HLA loci are associated with diseases, often those suspected to be of autoimmune aetiology.
