High intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is a powerful noninvasive tool for targeted tissue ablation. Monitoring of the treatment process and efficacy in real time, however, remains challenging. The tissue necrosis during the HIFU exposure leads to changes in optical absorption and scattering coefficients.
