Theoretical analysis of the fall cone test.

Abstract:
In the past it has been suggested that the Liquid Limit test is essentially a strength test, and correlations have been made for the strength at the Liquid Limit. In this paper a theoretical analysis of the fall cone test is made and a direct calculation of the undrained strength at the Liquid Limit is possible. The single most important factor affecting the Liquid Limit is the cone roughness, which is not specified in the British Standard.-from US Govt Reports Announcements, 26, 1981
