A human endogenous retroviral family (HERV-W) has been related to multiple sclerosis associated retrovirus (MSRV) and schizophrenia associated retrovirus (SZRV) sequences. The HERV-W family was identified in the cerebrospinal fluids and brains of individuals with schizophrenia.
