The ability of immune complexes derived from patients with type II mixed essential cryoglobulinemia to trigger the production of interleukin 1 (IL 1) was investigated. Immune complexes containing either IgM/IgG or IgA/IgG aggregates were shown to induce IL 1 production in human peripheral blood monocyte-enriched populations.
