Effect of processing techniques on the secondary intermetallic phases and thermomechanical behaviour of 6xxx series aluminium

Abstract:

For this project, an AlMgSi alloy with small additions of Fe was examined. It is established that the presence of Fe introduces secondary intermetallic phases α-AlFeSi and β-AlFeSi. It is also known that introduction of 5:1 Al-Ti-B type grain refiner encourages the formation of β-AlFeSi, while the introduction of Zr encourages the formation of α-AlFeSi.
