Compiling a dictionary on historical principles for any language is quite an ambitious task, but preparing one for a creole language presents several additional challenges. This paper looks at several problems faced by the fledgling Jamaican Lexicography Project (Jamlex) in the preparation of the Jamaican National Dictionary (JND).
