Sensorimotor cortex plasticity in upper-limb amputees

Abstract:

The current thesis was aimed at investigating how the primary sensorimotor cortex, and in particular the missing hand cortex, is affected by upper-limb amputation. This thesis further explores how activity in this region relates to phantom limb pain (PLP). As such, a series of neuroimaging experiments was designed, aimed at answering 3 main questions: 1) What happens to the neural fingerprint of a hand following its amputation? 2) What are the behavioural and neural underpinnings of PLP? 3...
