Investigating brain-derived α-synuclein fibrils and diagnostic biomarkers of synucleinopathies

Abstract:

Synucleinopathies are associated with the aggregation of misfolded alpha-synuclein (αSyn) into fibrils. These αSyn fibrils are categorised into different ’strains’ according to their biological properties. In vitro-seeded fibrils generated with seeding amplification assay (SAA fibrils) have facilitated αSyn strain research, but the question remains how well they replicate the brain-derived fibrils. The SAA also functions as a highly sensitive and specific diagnostic tool for Parkinson’s di...
