<p> Letter expressing condolences on behalf of the Mendelssohn Scholarships Foundation on the death of Elisabeth (Lili) Wach (1845-1910), daughter of the composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. It was most likely intended for Adolf Wach (1843-1926), Lili's husband.

The letter (written on an octavo-size bifolium with the Foundation's letterhead on the first leaf) mentions the occasion at which a reference to Frau Wach's death was made, namely the annual meeting of the Foundation's Committee that took place at the Royal Academy of Music on 4 November. The letter was written a day later by John Frederick Randall Stainer (1866-1939), Honorary Secretary of the Foundation and son of the composer Sir John Stainer.
