The Press and English local authorities

Abstract:

For over a century the press hag been engaged on a battle for certain rights and facilities which it considers necessary to the reporting of local government, some of these rights, like that of attending council meetings, secure for the journalist opportunities to obtain news and information:others, like the defence of qualified privilege in libel actions, secure a right to print and publish it. In both aspects of the problem the press still feels that it has a grievance, and the controversy persists.
