Signal in slaughter: endogenous conflict dynamics and violence against civilians in the 1948 war

Abstract:

Why do some civilian communities suffer from violent targeting at war while others do not? In this dissertation, I aim to offer an interactive and dynamic explanatory framework to why some experience lethal and non-lethal victimisation at war. I argue that individuals grapple with uncertainty at war by determining their decision-making based on information from the micro and macrolevel.
