This thesis describes investigations performed into the growth and characterisation of Bi-based (Bi2Sr2Can-1CunO2n + 4 + x, n=2, 3) ceramic superconducting material in the form of thin films, about 0.5μm thick, grown on single crystal MgO, LaAIO3 and SrTiO3 substrates by r.f. magnetron sputtering.
