Abstract: In September 335 the Martyrium basilica of the Cross was inaugurated. This event occurred in the same year that Constantine celebrated his tricennalia. The anniversary of the inauguration, known as the Encaenia, occurs on September 13. This paper will discuss the appropriateness of this date for the celebration of the Encaenia in 335.
